This movie steps away from being a thriller and moves toward more action, which I think is a better pairing for this concept. Putting the tension into thinks beyond just the level of sound the characters make defiantly helped distract from any inconsistencies there may have been.
It may be just me, but the characters felt more fleshed out this time around. They were well acted and behaved like humans, even with delivering heavy-handed foreshadowing. Hell, even the monsters looked better! It defiantly has its moment of dumb, but it a certain improvement over the first film.
That introduction sequence is so good and establishing the premise and strength of the monsters that you could argue that it should have been in the first film! Is it the best monster movie, of course not, but it's a welcome addition to the genre.
